Born and bred in Stockport, Rhianwen Davies began her calling career in NYFTE — The National Youth Folklore Troupe of England. With the help of her dad Rhodri Davies and numerous other callers, she quickly branched out to call Contra, Playford and Ceilidhs at folk festivals and dance series around the country. At the ripe old age of 23, Rhianwen has called for bands such as Vertical Expression, Steamchicken, English Contra Dance Band, Melrose Ceilidh Band, The John Spires Ceilidh band and Faustus.
Victoria Yeomans has been dancing all her life and loves all aspects of social folk dance. She is a musician, performing as Deo Volente with her husband Dave, and a caller with an international reputation. She loves to dance (and call) mixed programmes and a favourite evening will include Playford-era, modern ECD, contras and American squares with a variety of tempi and set formations. When not immersed in the folk world she is a patent attorney for a company headquartered in south Wales.
During lockdown, Deo Volente recorded 'At Home with Deo Volente,' a double CD of (mostly) Dave’s tunes accompanying dances choreographed by Victoria.
Ali Messer (piano accordion) plays at all the major festivals. She is a member of the bands Fat Harry and Momentum, and plays alone and in other combinations at various folk events. She claims that she 'aim[s] to play simple danceable music: basic trad stuff that is just really good for dancing. Every note improvised: inspired by musical friends and the tradition.'
